School Arrival Dismissal and Emergency Dismissal Procedures

School Arrival / Dismissal / Emergency Dismissal Procedures

Cunapo St Francis R.C. School students are expected to abide by the rules that govern transport conduct to and from school. Students are expected to come directly to school from home and vice-versa using the safest possible route. Students are expected to obey the school transport rules and obey traffic rules, while conducting themselves in a manner that does not disgrace the school’s name good reputation.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL

School starts at 8:30 AM for all students from Infant 1 through Standard 5. Students are not to arrive before ____ AM because supervision is not available. It is important to note that the duty of the school guard is not to supervision of students. Students who are enrolled with the School Feeding Program for breakfast may come to school no sooner than _______AM.

When the 8:20 AM freeze bell rings, students should come to a stop and stand with their hands behind their backs and wait for the teacher on assembly duty to sound a second bell. At that time, students are to WALK to their lines. The teachers will greet their students at the lines for the start of morning assembly. Once morning assembly is completed, the class teacher will escort the students to their class.

NOTE: Students arriving after _____AM are considered late and must join the late-line. Late students much go to the office and give their names to the Secretary. Late-comers will be given a slip to be taken to their parents. (See consequences for tardiness)

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL

Once afternoon prayer/assembly has been said, students must remain seated in their classrooms. The class teacher will dismiss the students. The school’s office expects that students will leave the school’s premises promptly. In addition, students are expected to take the safest route home using their designated transport arrangements stated on the student’s contact information form.

In the event that students are not picked up in a timely manner (within fifteen (15) minutes after dismissal) the school’s office will use all possible means to contact the parents and/or the emergency contact. This emergency contact is listed on the student’s contact information form. Please remember teaching staff is free to leave after dismissal at _____PM. Therefore it becomes a burden on staff to supervise students for lengthy periods of time (more than 15 minutes) after school’s dismissal. If after a further fifteen minutes, no contact can be made or if sufficient arrangements are not indicated to the school for the student’s safe dismissal, that student will be placed with the Sangre Grande Police Service to ensure there is continued supervision since teachers would have already cleared the school compound.

In accordance with of the job specifications of the security guards, school janitorial and grounds staff, these personnel cannot be used as supervisors for students. Cunapo R.C. School will do its best to ensure the safety of each student dressed in the school uniform. It is therefore important that parents / guardians obey these procedures as they protect: students, teachers, auxiliary staff and the Ministry of Education.

Cunapo St. Francis R.C. School understands these procedures may adversely affect a very small percentage of our parents. Please feel free to visit the school’s office so that other arrangements can be suggested.

EARLY DISMISSAL AND CASES OF EMERGENCY

In the event that school is dismissed as a result of unforeseen circumstances, the following procedures will be used to ensure the safety of students.

Once bell is rung and school prayers / assembly is said, the students will remain seated until the class teacher instructs students that they are dismissed. The school office or class teacher will use the contact information on the student contact information form to communicate to parents/guardians/emergency contact that there is an early dismissal or emergency.

For students who:

WALK or TAKE TAXIS or BUS – Parents must give the teachers authorization that that student can walk home. Again, students are expected to use the safest route home. A student is not allowed to go to another student’s home unless a prior written instruction is given by that student’s parents.

SPECIAL DRIVER – Once parents are informed of an early dismissal, that parent is to communicate this dismissal to the special drivers. Teachers / Office will also contact special drivers. The drivers will have to enter the school building and identify themselves to the teacher to be able to collect the pupil.

WAIT ON SOMEONE – Once parents are informed of an early dismissal, students will wait in their classes under the supervision of their teachers. The person, who must collect the pupil, must enter the school building and identify himself to the teacher to be able to collect the pupil.

These procedures are necessary to maintain the safety the pupils. The school understands that unforeseen circumstances might mean that there is no supervision when the child reaches home. Therefore we expect parents to put contingency plans in place of emergencies.

EVACTUATION OF COMPOUND
In the event of an authentic evacuation or a drill, three (3) short bells will be sounded. Students are expected to leave all of their belongings and follow the instructions of the class teacher to the designated safe zones. Parents will be notified of dismissal once the office deems that an emergency dismissal is required. Usual early dismissal procedures will be followed.
